Seasonal Tips
Fall is the time of year to make sure your furnace filter and humidifier pads are replaced to get ready for winter! Keeping a clean filter installed will ensure your furnace gets enough airflow and keep your blower, heat exchanger, and evaporator coil clean. Be careful! A 1" filter with anything higher than a MERV 8 may be too restrictive for your furnace to operate correctly even when it is brand new. We normally suggest a pleated filter with a MERV 8 or lower or installing a media air cleaner such as Air Bear or Aprilaire.
Making sure your humidifier pad is new at the start of heating season will keep the air you breathe is clean and will prevent water from leaking from the humidifier. Aftermarket pads are available and will work, however, we suggest using the OEM pads that are designed to fit and function properly. Remember to dial down your humidistat on the colder days or if you notice moisture on your windows. If you notice water leaking from your humidifier, set the humidistat to off and turn off the water feeding the humidifier off and give us a call!
When it comes to indoor air quality, there are many accessories to keep the air in your home clean and healthy. A functioning humidifier can help prevent dry skin and throats, helps prevent gaps in wood flooring, and even lower the risk of spreading the flu! A media air cleaner is capable of using a higher MERV rated filter without restricting airflow and a 6-12 month filter life. These filters are able to collect: dust, mold bacteria, smoke and pet odors, and other allergens.
